While Rayonier's core businesses are global in scope, smaller wood product operations are also part of our business model.
In addition to our three core businesses, the Rayonier Wood Products division adds significant value. Utilizing expertise and efficiencies, we market lumber, wood chips and other residual products.
Lumber
Our wood products business, headquartered in Baxley, Georgia, includes three lumber mills. Using Southern Yellow Pine, this business offers commodity grade lumber used for home construction framing, as well as multiple industrial and outdoor uses. Although Southern Yellow Pine lumber is a commodity, our superior manufacturing practices allow us to differentiate ourselves from the competition through the production of high-quality lumber with tailored packaging and excellent, personalized customer care and service.
Wood Procurement
Our wood procurement operation purchases the wood needed for Rayonier’s pulp mills and sawmills. We buy the wood from suppliers located throughout our markets to ensure the lowest price. To help meet the demands of our pulp mills, Rayonier owns strategically-located chip mills in Georgia and Virginia. The chipped wood is delivered quickly via rail and trucks. We create value by consistently and cost-effectively procuring timber for our mills.
Rayonier also voluntarily adheres to the standards set by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI), a program that includes third-party audits of our practices. All of our 2.4 million acres of U.S. timberlands are certified by the SFI. In addition, Rayonier’s wood procurement is third party certified to SFI standards.
